When you become a teacher, insight into the world of Holidays is revealed. You learn about special festivities and celebrations that you didn’t even know existed. Take for example, Walk-to-School Day. (I drove that day, but do you know how many miles I’ve logged chasing after The Runner?) There’s Earth Day. (Tenenbaum came dressed as a leaf.) Secretary’s Day. Recycling Day. Pet Day. The list goes on. On each of these momentous occasions, children feel compelled to bring their teacher some kind of gift. I am currently the proud owner of an XXL tee, with the slogan “One Earth” splashed across the top. Nothing, however, beats the gifts that coincide with the winter holidays. Why? All gifts are fair game. There is no category or theme that the youngsters must adhere to; anything and everything is admissible during the month of… December.
